Distance & Online Study
In distance learning, face-to-face teaching is almost entirely replaced by online courses, specially designed learning materials, books, journal articles, pre-recorded audio and other resources.
You choose when and where you learn – studying from a distance gives you the power to improve your career prospects no matter where you are. It means you can fit study around work, social or family commitments. You can vary your study load to suit. Full or part-time study options are available with the majority of university degrees, in particular those offered by SCU, UNE and CSU.
You will be well supported by academic staff who are experienced in teaching on-line. You will also have the support of library and student administration staff who are all experienced in providing support for students studying at a distance. These universities understand the challenges of the distance education student. Virtual environments, e-classrooms, discussion boards and the use of skype and other technologies enable teachers to actively engage with students. This also allows students to talk to each other and use learning materials interactively.
If you're looking to expand your skills, re-enter the job market after an absence, or want a complete career change, distance education may be the answer.

I have studied at the University of New England as both a full-time internal student and now as a part-time distance education student. Some of the support services I have found particularly helpful are those offered by Student Assist and the Academic Skills Office. As an internal student I found the staff at these offices to be friendly and approachable and eager to assist me in any facet of university life. The services offered by the colleges further added to the excellent support I obtained as an internal student while studying at UNE.
As a distance student the support services have been just as easily accessible. To know that the UNE support staff are just an email or phone call away is very comforting. I have found the extensive information available through the UNE homepage to also be of great assistance. On the odd occasion that I was unable to locate an answer to a concern or query, or if I did not know who to contact, the AskUNE service provided me with the answer I was looking for more often then not.
The UNE Study Centre based in Taree is invaluable in that it completely takes away that feeling of isolation as a distance education student, provides an opportunity to network with other students and a venue for quiet study, assignment completion and access to all UNE Support Services including a full time staff member.
